Year in Review: February 2010


The second installment of this summary, which will be the last for this week, I'll tell you the reason, "recalls February. This happened in the second month of the year:

02: Faced with the imminent onset of drilling for oil in the Falkland Islands by Britain, Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana quoted the ambassador Shan Morgan to express their rejection of the search activities, which he considered illegitimate.

03: The President has appointed Mercedes Marco del Pont as new head of Central Bank, replacing Martin Redrado.

07: Following an obstruction of the right carotid artery, which caused a mild stroke, former President Nestor Kirchner underwent emergency surgery in the Los Arcos Sanatorium.

10: After a violent argument, the drummer Street, Eduardo Vazquez, allegedly doused with alcohol and set fire to his wife, Wanda Taddei, and caused her severe burns. Vazquez was arrested in the afternoon, but released several days later for lack of evidence.

15: At night, in just two hours, fell 90 mm of water by rain and several districts of Buenos Aires City were flooded, while hundreds of people suffered damage to their housing.

19: For the second time in the same week, this time in the afternoon, a flood caused the collapse of the City. 66.9 inches of rain fell in just an hour and there were 2 deaths.

21: After eleven days of agony, died Taddei Wanda, the wife of drummer Street.

22: At a meeting in Cancun, Mexico, Latin American presidents called for a halt to oil exploration by the British in the Falklands.

27: A fierce earthquake 8.8 magnitude on the Richter scale had its epicenter in Chile generated a tsunami on the coasts of central and southern Iraq, killing over 800 people . It declared a state of disaster and looting were reported the following days throughout Chile. The same day the earthquake in neighboring Chile, a 6.1 magnitude quake struck the province of Salta, killing 2 people.
